Soldiers in Taksim Istanbul

Yes, everything happens right now. Tonight two bridges of Istanbul Bosphorus were closed by military forces. Jets flied very low over the parliament and General Staff of Turkey. It is said that the Chief of Staff was taken hostage by a group which made this coup inside of army. Airports were closed to flights. State television was seized by soldiers and they announced a notice. And a few minutes ago, Tayyip Erdogan called the people of Turkey and he said that “I call the public to the squares, we cannot leave the squares to them.”

Very interesting things happen right now. I will edit this post as soon as possible.

  1. Wow! My mother told me of this. It is crazy!!! I pray for your safety and for peace and freedom of all Turkish people. I don’t know what will happen.

Only I know that this is a very big event. I send good thoughts to you and wishes of hope and comfort. I hope you will be safe and happy always.

You are the best Turkish (extraterrestrial) journalist in my opinion 🙂

  2. How are things now Migo? I heard this morning that the coup failed and that the government is trying to restore order. Although, from some people I’ve been following, there is still some conflict going on?

Also, how do you feel about the attempted coup? What are your thoughts on how it was carried out and whether or not it was justified?

  3. Yes, I was wondering about you, about your safety. Indeed, it’s good to hear that all is well with you!

This ‘coup’ is a confused and complicated affair to sort out. And as always, in these particular power struggles — in this instance, between factions of the ruling elite — people end up dying in vain since nothing at the end of the day, regardless of whether the coup succeeds or not, is really gained for the majority. Conspicuously absent in this fight is the secular left, as the fight appears to be between two kinds of Islamo-fascisms.
