Millennials equally dislike Trump, Clinton & Putin – but would vote socialist

A new study surveying American attitudes towards capitalism, socialism or communism found younger Americans preferred George W. Bush and Bernie Sanders than Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Vladimir Putin. Nearly half of Gen Z would vote for a socialist.

Over half of Americans preferred George W. Bush and Bernie Sanders among living political figures to Hillary Clinton (41 percent disapproved of her), Donald Trump (whose negative rating was 49 percent), and Vladimir Putin (46 percent negative), according to a new study titled, “Annual Report on US Attitudes towards Socialism.”

The study’s findings came from polling 2,300 Americans aged 16 and above for their opinions on differing political economic systems, and their respective leaders.

As for the general economy, 53 percent of Americans said the country’s economic system works against them, while four out of 10 Americans call for a “complete change” of America’s economic system to ensure highest earners pay their fair share of tax.

Nearly half of Generation Z (45 percent) said they would vote for a socialist, while one in five (21 percent) said they would vote for a communist.

However, many millennials are unfamiliar with communist leaders Mao Zedong (42 percent); Che Guevara (40 percent); Stalin (18 percent); Lenin (33 percent); and oddly Putin (not a communist) at 18 percent. Of those millennials familiar with Vladimir Lenin, 25 percent have a favorable view of him.

Among the study’s findings, 26 percent of Americans and 32 percent of millennials think more people were killed under George W. Bush than Joseph Stalin. Nearly seven in 10 Americans believed more people were killed under Hitler than Stalin.

The poll was carried out by the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, a nonprofit to educate this generation and future generations about the ideology, history, and legacy of communism.

With just five self-described communist countries in the world – China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea and Vietnam – younger Americans had different views of communism and socialism than their elders.

Roughly half of millennials (55 percent) believe communism was and still is a problem – compared with 80 percent of baby boomers and 91 percent of elderly Americans.

While 57 percent of all Americans have a “very unfavorable” view of communism, that view is shared by just 37 percent of millennials and 38 percent of Generation Z.

The quote from Karl Marx which underpins Marxist philosophy, “From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs,” resonated with 64 percent of Americans.

But 68 percent of Americans were supportive of Milton Friedman’s quote “A society that puts equality before freedom will get neither. A society that put freedom before equality gets a high degree of both.” It was Friedman’s theories about the free market that underpinned the Ronald Reagan administration and that belief that wealth would “trickle down.”

Among those surveyed, the majority said they were moderates ideologically, 48 percent said they were interested in news and public affairs most of the time, 28 percent were born-again Christians, 51 percent were female, 66 percent were white, 32 percent were Democrat, 25 percent were Independent and 24 percent were Republican; while 66 percent were registered voters. Of those polled, 42 percent had a high school education or did not finish high school, while 31 percent at least started a college education.

  1. Yes, but 2300 does not a total make, my friend!

    The millennials are by far the worst educated, and so the most ignorant of anything other than what Hollywood whores are doing, their horrible, obnoxious music, and their social media devices. Beyond this, they really do not exist in a human sense.

    So, if the rest of the world is looking to the American x, y and millennial generations for salvation, then the rest of the world is even more doomed than it is already.

    Stats are meaningless, my friend. I could go out and get stats that support and contradict this and every other position that is or has ever been; stats are just another elite manipulative device. Americans, as a majority, will never giver up their democratic/capitalist religion, their red-white and blue, patriotic insanity. Americans, just like many others around the world, want a mommy-daddy state (nanny-police state) to take care of them. And as long as people want these isms, and I mean any people, anywhere, humanity is doomed!

  2. There seems to be some confusion with the concept of “classic” Socialism, and the western version of “regulated Capitalism” that conservatives like to brand Socialism as a pejorative. One is really quite unlike the other. What Sanders was proposing was a return to policies and tax structures that have already existed in the past here in the US. For instance, Govt subsidized college as a public institutions prospered from the 1860’s, especially universities established through federal land grants. Over time, as public support was reduced or not increased sufficiently to compensate for their growth in students and costs (faculty and staff salaries, utilities etc.), they moved first to a low tuition and eventually higher tuition policy. And incidentally no-one referred to it as “Socialism” at the time. Health care is almost universally supported in industrialized nations all over the world. It’s kissing cousin, Social Security is a safety net for the disabled and elderly that are paid for in real time by taxed deductions from workers paychecks. It’s really no different than buying insurance, financially. You pay in like a retirement account, then you collect when it’s time. What really annoyed conservatives is the increase in taxes for the well to do.

    • Thank you for your detailed comment especially about higher tuition policy of US, my Earthling friend! I didn’t know these knowledges. We at east always heard that US’s college fees are very high and most student pay their depts after the school life, during many years.

      At the begining of presidentship race, Sanders speeches aimed at these fees, as far as I know. But it is obvious that Sanders is not a socialist (maybe before he was); now, he seems just a system’s new-fashioned puppet. And it is very sad situation for a human being.

      Also, as far as I understand, the youngest people in US, so the majority of millennium generation keeps the Sanders speeches like new trend. They don’t know anything about socialism in real meaning. This is not the situation only US, most country at this planet it is the same. They seem that they made their choices for a long time ago. Their choices are framed with internet conditions. Already they were born in virtual world, they spent most of life time in this virtual world. When adding their youth fire, Sanders speeches seemed very proper for drawing their attention.

      With all picture there is one thing which drew my attention and caused to ask question, my Earthling friend, “is there a possibility all Sanders subject can be a part of plan for winning of democrats in US?”. In this point there is a big question mark. All this happened, is a chain of coincidences? But, my materialist extraterrestrial mind says to me, there is no such a thing as coincidence. 🙂
