Up the Irons!

YESSSSSSSS!

I knew I would post with this title one day! But I did not know which day will be. This song made me breathe today. Generation Z doesn’t know much them(no offense gen Z;) but they are Beethoven of this time for me. 🙂

And I am glad they are on the planet earth, glad they released this song today. I needed this, I know!

Thank you so much, you great Earthling musicians, Iron Maiden!

“The writing on the wall” by Iron Maiden

Written by Adrian Smith / Bruce Dickinson

Lyrics

Across a painted desert lies a train of vagabonds
All that’s left of what we were it’s what we have become
Once our empires glorious but now the empire’s gone
The dead gave us the time to live and now our time is done

Now we are victorious we’ve become our slaves
A land of hope and glory building graveyards for the brave

Have you seen the writing on the wall
Have you seen that writing
Can you see the riders on the storm
Can you see them riding ~ can you see them riding

Holding on to jury is that all we ever know
Ignorance our judge and jury all we’ve got to show
From Hollywood to Babylon ~ holy war to kingdom come
On a trail of dust and ashes ~ when the burning sky is done
A tide of change is coming and that is what you fear
The earthquake is a coming but you don’t want to hear
You’re just too blind to see

Have you seen the writing on the wall
Have you seen that writing
Can you see the riders on the storm
Can you see them riding
Can you see them riding. . . Riding next to you

Edit comes after 1.5 days:
I’ve listened to the song at least 15 times so far.
My impressions:

-At first, it starts with southern rock air, although the classic Iron Maiden tone is immediately felt, the main emphasis is reaching a point with Adrian Smith solo and the chorus you can call this is Iron Maiden.

-When the song is listened to on youtube, Bruce’s voice is muffled as if embedded in instruments. Quality is not good. Much better if it is listened on Spotify.

-There are many political sub-themes and references with Eddie in the clip. There are also references to their previous album songs in at least 3 places. Although it has an epic and medieval atmosphere, while describing an apocalyptic world, it actually tells how important actors of this era brought humanity to this Mad Max like end.

-While defining the China, America and England trio, the question may come up in the clip why there is no Russia among the great powers with the images. However, with the song Mother Russia, I think Iron Maiden expressed its stance and opinion about Russia years ago. I think it is normal that Russia is not in the clip, because next to this trio, Russia seems like an angel.

-My preference is always the faster Iron Maiden rhythm. For this reason, I liked to listen to the song at 1.25 speed. Even though it wasn’t a Run to the Hills, it had a similar feel to it. 😉

-Song length is good. It could have been even longer and I think it would have been much better. The longer Iron Maiden songs are for me is the more satisfying; because they’re like a meal or feast I never want to end. 🙂
