Communist bees

The things you will read shortly after, it might seem an imagination or unreal, my earthling friends. But it’s all true. You will read the informations about the municipality are real, and also it is in Turkey Republic.

First of all I have to mention that in provincial and county municipal elections in Turkey, the rate of votes of the people living within the boundaries of the province or county, determines which party the municipality belongs to. For example, the same situation does not exist in parliamentary elections. A 10% election threshold in parliamentary elections is a matter of fact, and even if the person who wants to become a deputy, holds the most votes in the region, if his/her party remains below 10% of the all Turkey general votes, he/she can not be a deputy. Yes democracy is such a thing, haha!

Anyway, I guess, you’re wondering where these communist bees came from.

These communist bees are the bees of only municipality of Ovacik, Turkey’s only communist municipality. I did not give this name to them, the locals call with this name.

Tunceli (Dersim) city, Ovacık county municipality, with the candidate of Communist Party in the municipal elections on March 30, 2014, became the only communist municipality in the country.

*It must be pointed out that before September 12, 1980 the fascist coup, there was a communist party county in Fatsa county of Ordu city in Turkey.

And let’s see, since March 2014,

Let us take a look at what the communist mayor of Fatih Mehmet Macoglu who was beloved by the public has done, since then:

First, he sold official car and he used this money to open the library. Anymore, there is a big library in the municipal building.

There is no door in his office room at Ovacık municipality building, everyone can enter to his room.

He opened the public properties to the people. The municipality is farming these areas, and the collected crops are distributed to the poor people.

He made public transportation free. So the county buses are free.

Ovacik communist mayor Macoglu and Ankara city, former mayor Melih Gokcek from AKP, twitter correspondences about this subject.

Translated in Turkish:

Melih Gokcek: IN ANKARA, DURING RELIGIOUS FESTIVAL, ALL BUSSES ARE FREE.

Mehmet Macoglu: In Ovacık, transportation is free in all 365 days plus 6 hours. You make a show for what by writing with capital letters.

Also, in Ovacik the taxis are being hired for the transportation of disabled citizens, and the municipality pays for it.

He reduced the water per cubic meter price to 50 Turkish kurus. So about 3 cents. For example, the price of water in Istanbul is 1 USD per cubic meter.
(Actually he wanted to give the water as free to public; but Mehmet Maçoglu had said that he could not do it, because the water cannot be given without payment as legally in Turkey.)

He founded the cooperative with the villagers, and organic chickpeas, beans are being produced from domestic seeds. They are being sold to all of Turkey. In fact, this year there was such a demand for these natural and domestic products that there was such news in the newspapers:

“When the demand for organic chickpeas, dried beans and honey produced by the only Communist Party municipality of Turkey in Tunceli’s Ovacık District became intense, the district cargo began to carry packages with a quota above Turkey standards. Moved products have been 3 tonnes per week.”

Of course the winner here is the peasants and the consumers. There are 51 villages in the Ovacik county, and the villagers can now make money from their own products without intermediaries.

The products of Ovacik municipality are not only chickpeas and beans. They also produce organic honey, again through a cooperative.

With the start of sales of honey in Turkey, communist mayor Macoglu said:

“After the communist chickpeas and beans, the communist honey has also entered the Turkish literature. We put on the market Turkey’s healthiest and most natural honey. Those who tasted the natural honey, both will eat our honey, also will become communist.” :))

The Ovacik municipality also grants scholarships to college students with the proceeds from the honey.

In addition, there is such a transparent and open municipal policy that, at the end of the years, the Ovacik municipality annually puts the annual income costs on banners and hangs it at the door of the municipality, so that all the public can see.

The communist mayor also opened the tours of the Munzur valley, set up camp sites there, and opened the area for tourism.

The works are not limited with only these. Especially for children and young people, culture house, cinema-theater workshop and music workshop also provide training.

So, in short, it is a municipality that exists for the people, that is what it has to be already.

And if you come by Ovacik municipality one day, and if you see a mayor who collects the garbage together with the public, works in the fields with the villagers, sometimes works in a build a house, sometimes plays with children, also if you see the bees that you suspect that they could be communists, leave a warm smile to them. They know their presence is already in this warm smile.

  1. Bees make honey which is so pure it never degrades even over thousands of years. Must be a connection as why this is their name. Thanks for the good news this is, a system working fairly for the people is so rare!

    • Yes, the connection is that the bees have been always communists and I love bees. I know they love me too, because they always sting me in whereever they see me. 🙂 Also, indeed, a system working fairly for the people is so rare, my earthling friend. But as we can see some times ideals can return into reality. By the way, you have not seem around lately, everything is okay with your life?

  2. Wonderful! Beautiful! The way the world should be!

This is how I envision smaller self-sustaining/governing communities. This leader can do these wonderful things for the people (not his people, the people), because he doesn’t have a gigantic government and billions of people to take care of, where corrupt, wealthy individuals are going to take control.

It’s just that I stay away from labels, like communism, socialism and capitalism, since they all have a stigma associated with them; they have all failed humanity. We (humanity) need to create the life we desire, then we won’t need a name to designate it by, that’s my opinion.

Nationalities and cultures, yes, Nationalism and patriotism, no.

  3. The work Fatih Mehmet Macoglu has done is such a powerful example of what can be accomplished by people working together in their communities despite toxic national governments. Hopefully people will recognize this example signifies the way it could be in the future if we put aside socially-constructed individualistic narratives.

    • Yes, his work is a powerful example! In a showy environment that almost every politic party said “we will do-work for people” before the elections, Mehmet Macoglu is a person who makes what he said after elections. Without pursuing unearned income, without puting the tax burdens on the people’ back, he just makes oly his job actually. Actually, Carol A. Hand, all managements should be like this. And not Mehmet Macoglu, the others who doesn’t do work should be news. But, the others are perceived so naturally that the system is so rotten on the planet that the Ovacik municipality may be different and important news, because of it has already done what it has to be.
